Marian was an avid bridge player, an avid butterfly collector, and she enjoyed traveling, hiking and mountain climbing. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in North Ridgeville, and was a former member of the North Olmsted Congregational Church where she served as a deaconess. She also ushered for many years at the Cleveland Playhouse. Marian was also involved with American Foreign Service, and was responsible for bringing North Ridgeville’s first foreign exchange student to town in 1968. She was also a member of the Lorain County Visitors Bureau and served on the Board of Directors at the North Ridgeville Senior Center. ![]() She was involved with the North Ridgeville Lions Club, was a member of the Republican Club and the Republican Central Committee, of the North Ridgeville Chamber of Commerce and of the North Ridgeville Visitors Bureau where she served as president for many years. She also served as president of the North Ridgeville Junior Women’s Club, was co-chairman of the North Ridgeville Sesquicentennial in 1960, was instrumental in organizing North Ridgeville's first First Night Celebration and was involved for many years, and was a member of the Charter Committee for the City of North Ridgeville. She was also an adjunct instructor of real estate at Lorain County Community College, and she served on North Ridgeville City Council for several years. Marian was very successful at selling real estate and was a $1,000,000.00 salesperson, and was named sales associate of the year for several years. She later became a real estate agent, and worked with Bob Schmidt Realty, which later became Coldwell Banker Realty. She also worked as a North Olmsted School bus driver, and she taught 4th grade at Lake Ridge Academy in North Ridgeville. While at the store, she gave many home toy parties throughout the area. Early in her life, Marian worked at the Bomber Plant in Cleveland, and she was also a full partner in her family’s hardware store Gardner-Johnston Hardware in North Ridgeville. She was a 1943 graduate of North Olmsted High School where she was valedictorian of her class, and she was a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio. She was born in Cleveland, and she was raised in North Olmsted. Marian Gardner Stafford (nee Johnston), 89, a long-time resident of North Ridgeville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Octoat Traditions of Bath in Cuyahoga Falls, following a lengthy illness.
